West Caribbean Cruise - Labadee, Haiti (Blog 3 of 11)

The ship was at sea for the whole day on the 2nd day and it ported at Labadee, Haiti early in the morning on the 3rd day.  Labadee is a private port owned by Royal Caribbean I think, or they lease this port from the Haiti government I'm not too sure.  There aren't much to do here honestly, well...water sports, zip line, swimming, stuff like that.  There is a small market place where licensed vendors sell souvenirs and local crafts.  To me, this port of call is kinda boring!

Here is the pier at Labadee.

Here is a glance at the cruise, deck 4.

 Local fishermen.

A side shot of the ship.

Labadee, Haiti.  My first port of call.

Reefs, the pier is built right next to these reefs here.

Those on board photographers refused to let us tourists take picture of the ship right at this spot.  If you really want to take a picture of the ship, she will take it for you and you will need to buy the photo that type.  Well, I just snap a picture of the ship while she was busy taking pictures for other people.  Who cares!

Jet ski.  This is one of the many excursions which you can participate, and of course, you need to pay.

Map and directional signs at Labadee.  There's really nothing much to do here...

An ocean view.  PS, those lines you see are part of the zip lines.

It was so damned hot here and I never stopped sweating!!  Really wanna grab those bags of ice and leave!

These sands look horrible!!  Certainly not a place for swimming (only this area)!!

Discover Haiti Coastal Cruise, the excursion I've booked at this port.

This is the coastal of Labadee, Haiti...

This is one of the local village, surrounded by ocean and water.

A closer shot at the village...

I wonder how these people gain access to the other part of the island...by boat??!

Water is sooooo clear that you can see everything underneath!

 More local fishermen.

 A shot at the ship.

 You know what....

Looking at these pictures, I feel like I'm in Hong Kong!!

Lantau Island, just bigger in size....

 This is our boat guide.

He said that local fishermen used this kind of cage (a lot bigger in size) to catch fish, they put some baits in and once the fish are in, they can't come out.

 Endless Caribbean ocean.

A squid jumped out of the water and landed on the boat, ejected the ink and died.

 This is our captain.

Local fisherman again, can't zoom any closer....

Reefs are everywhere and some of them are so shallow that they expose above the water.  No wonder there are so many shipwreck around this area.  That black thing on the left is actually a shipwreck.

We were approaching this island, which I forgot the name...

Another shot of the endless reefs.

This island reminds me of those in Maldives, it's just there aren't any coral reefs surrounding this little island here.

There are only a few people hanging out here.

See, doesn't it look like the coastal in Hong Kong?!

The guide told us that locals plant their agricultural products on the hillside.

Last shot of the 'Lantau Island' before we headed back to the shore.

Our boat is approaching the port.

A shot of the ship from the rear.

Freedom of The Seas, Royal Caribbean.

This shore excursion lasted for a little less than 2 hours.

This is the boat I was on.

Local band.  I think they where here for the whole day while the ship was ported, just to keep the music going and entertained us...

Dragons Cafe, a place where we had BBQ lunch.

 Dragons Lookout Point.

This is the end of the zip line.  It starts from the hill top right across the beach.

This 'dragon point' was rough and rocky.

This is not a beach for swimming 'coz the current is very strong.

Dragon Point facing the endless Caribbean ocean.

The 'dragon mouth' is facing the ocean, not too sure if this is how it gets it's name.

Another shot of the rocky beach.

 Waves are coming in.

Our docked right behind these rocks.

Haiti.  There is no downtown or market place around this area.  Imagine if our ship is not here, this place can be so dead...

I saw these sea snails all over the place and they are alive!!

 Rocky & windy cliff.

There are a few of these shallow 'holes' and you can see different kinds of creatures inside, eg, sea urchin, fish & sea snails.

Lunch of my day:  BBQ chicken, ribs and hamburger.

This is my husband's plate.  There weren't a lot of food at the cafe here, but it's nice eating locally.

I love eating the ribs while my husband likes eating their chicken.

There were fruits, salad, burger, BBQ stuff, desserts items at this cafe here, which I believe all foods were prepared on the ship.

 My second plate.  =)

A beach for sun bathing only, the current is so strong outside that we can't swim here.

 Wheelchairs.

My first time seeing these kinds of wheelchairs.

We took the local transportation and went to the market village.

 Local handcrafts.

Local vendors, you need to have a license to sell here.

 Natural sea snails.

 Local crafts.

These vendors are so eager to sell you stuff.  They will start with:  May I show you something here?  Can you come over here for a sec?

And once you are at their booth, they will never want to let you go.

Yet, we were told that they love to bargain, so you will need a good bargaining skill to get the stuff that you want in a good price.

I wanna see what they're selling but neh, they're just too 'friendly' and I'd rather stay outskirt.

 Coconut on a coconut tree.

Some of the paintings are really nice.

On my way back to the pier, we passed by a children's playground.

Last shot of the beach before I headed back on board.

Hurricane Katia has been formed at the Atlantic Ocean for several days (orange spot on the right) and I was checking on it everyday to see if it will hit the Caribbean.

It's almost time to leave and people were heading back to the ship.

 This area is now empty...

The water was so clear that we can see everything underneath it.

 Royal Caribbean flag.

This is the front of the ship.

 Labadee and the Caribbean.

This boat comes back just before the ship leave.

Onboard shot from the rear of the ship.

 Leaving Labadee, Haiti.
