Electric Blue Cray 藍龍蝦

Many people think that crayfish are lobsters but they are not.  Crayfish are freshwater cretaceous that can be found in streams or brooks.  I have 3 electric blue crayfish to start with and they lived happily in my 40 gallon community tank at first...not until I figured that they started to kill my other fish!!  I gave one to Mom and kept the other two in a separate container.

Surprise to see them out of water huh??  It won't harm them if they have no water for a couple of minutes, just not like hours.

My husband usually put them in a sink when he is changing the water for them.  You need to be gentle when picking up these crayfish, especially after they just mold since their body is very fragile.

One of my crayfish (female) just molted and my husband insisted me to take a picture of it's empty shell.  It looks like an alien skull to me.  Ewww......!!  Don't ever throw away the shell 'coz the crayfish will most likely eat it's own shell to get the necessary nutrition from it.

Spring time, mating season (I think).  This male bastard has forced the female into mating by clipping onto her two claws!!  (You only see one claw there 'coz the other one is being ripped off!)  Several days later, both her claws were gone!!  BOTH!!!  I flared, transferring the female back to the 40 gallon tank.  Forget about the mating!!  Geez...

She was a bit nervous at first, trying to find a hiding spot.  Look at her!!!  Claw-less!!!

 ...........
Not too sure if her claws will grow again or not in her next mold.  Eventhough it does, it won't be as big as it used to...

At least she finds herself more comfortable though, climbing up to the top of my plant....but she looks awkward without the claws!  She can't hurt my fish now ('coz she is claw-less), but my fish can hurt her, especially that naughty Yoyo!  Arrrrgggggg!!!!!
