Assignment: 辨別真偽!! Chi Kong Water Chestnut Starch 岐江馬蹄粉

I did a blog about making water chestnut pudding several days ago.  Just during this past weekend while my Mom was hanging around in T&T, she found out the brand that she is currently using (Chi Kong 岐江) has a different packaging!  She bought a pack home to compare, but she hasn't make anything from it yet.  Well, it doesn't seems that one is a new packaging while the other one is an old packaging...  It looks more like one of them is a counterfeit...  Your thought??

There are two packs of chestnut starch here.  The one below (I call it Exhibit A) is what my Mom bought and recommended.  The one on top (Exhibit B) was bought from T&T, don't know if it's real or fake though...

Exhibit B - it has a 'Chi Kong Brand' logo at the top left corner.  Other than that the chestnut color is different. There are also a whole bunch of wordings at the bottom right of the box.

Exhibit B - Flip it over and you will see the nutrition fact and bar code, which you won't find this in Exhibit A.

OKay, here is Exhibit A.

Exhibit A - it has the nutrition fact too, but this is printed at the side of the box.

Both Exhibit A & B weight the same - 8 oz (227g).  The top one was bought from T&T, $1.67 or something; the other one was bought from a supermarket at Spadina/16th, $2.49 or something.

Exhibit B (top one) only printed these Chinese characters on the side of the box while Exhibit A (bottom) got both Chinese & English characters.

Here is the other side of the box.  Exhibit B (top) only has the word 'water chestnut starch' printed on the box while Exhibit A (bottom) displayed the nutrition fact.

  1. 之前提過祖國甚麽也有造假,有時更是真假莫辨,看圖有可能兩隻都是真品,但其中一隻甚至兩隻都可能是水貨,因為沒有法文標籤,所謂水貨即未經正式入口代理商入貨。通常出口貨品包裝標籤、規格是會應入口國家有所調整,所以有所不同。

    1. 其實好多入口貨係冇添加法文,很多入口商都很少這樣做,省略成本,而且很多只賣華人超市,衛生局很少會去華人超市檢查法文,通常會以回收,成份,標籤等為先

    2. 其實你細心留意一下,若果是中國正式入口的貨品絕大部份都有中、英、法文標籤,若果原本無都會另加 label,唔信的話你行去你厨睇睇啲國產調味品或罐頭之類,若果無法文甚至英文的話,不能說是假貨但肯定是非正途入口混水摸魚。

  3. 國內山寨貨?唔出奇丫,以我所知連煮的料酒雖然便宜,但亦有假貨,以我所知,T&T相對其他X泰,龍X等超市少假貨,亦少很多山寨,雖然相對價格亦較貴,但至少安心

    from the substance picture, I guess Exhibit A seems to be more real?but again, hard to tell since we are no product experts

  4. 既然兩隻貨都在手上, 可不請伯母整兩件馬蹄糕樣本睇吓, 可能製成品有好大分別. 希望兩者有好大偏差, 萬一兩者都唔合水準, 好可能兩隻都係假貨. 如果無法分辦真假, 我寧願放棄唔食馬蹄糕.

  5. 响網上搵到以下資料, 伯母可以作為參考.

    (1)色澤:馬蹄粉灰白或像牙色;假馬蹄粉為純白色或帶赤色。
    (2)形狀:馬蹄粉呈棱角形的粒狀,手捏之鬆散易滑;假馬蹄粉,呈塊狀或粒狀,手捏較粗感。
    (3)氣味:馬蹄粉有一股馬蹄般的清香味;假馬蹄粉則沒有這種氣味。
    (4)滋味:馬蹄粉進嘴後,有清涼潤喉的感覺,並有甜味;假馬蹄粉則沒有這種滋味和風味,往往有澀味和苦味。

    1. 若果說辨別真偽倒不如說辨別優劣,劣品可能是舢板充炮艇魚目混珠,有時就算是正牌真貸,由於某種情况而影響品質,如生產過程出差錯,大家都知國內對品質控制要求有幾嚴格,又或者運送、儲存時貨品受潮,所指受潮並不需直接水浸,環境空氣(貨櫃、貨倉)過濕,會導至馬碲粉變質,有肉眼看不見的霉菌,味度變酸變苦及聞起上嚟有異味。

    2. 對大陸產品我有所保留, 當然要分辦優劣; 因為品質監控問題, 但仍要分辦真假, 內地最出色係做假. 買馬蹄粉可能收到石膏粉, 買雞蛋可能係膠蛋. 收到劣貨只不過金錢受損, 買到假貨可能影響身體健康.
